In the latest round of the Biel Grandmaster Triathlon (GMT-Masters), Aravindh Chithambaram has once again seized the lead. This significant shift occurred after Saleh Salem delivered the sole decisive victory of the day, defeating the former leader Vladimir Fedoseev. Aravindh secured a draw against Radoslaw Wojtaszek, which was sufficient for the Indian grandmaster to reclaim the top spot. Salem`s impressive win propelled the Emirati player into third place in the standings.
Meanwhile, all games in the GMT-Challengers tournament concluded in draws. This outcome is particularly favorable for Theodorou and Hakobyan, whose advancement to the final phase next week now appears increasingly probable.
Aravindh Capitalizes on Fedoseev’s Setback
Vladimir Fedoseev, defending with the black pieces against Saleh Salem, found himself under early pressure. Salem, the previous year’s Biel Challenger winner and the lowest-rated player in the 2025 Masters, masterfully maintained and built upon his advantage. He ultimately forced Fedoseev`s resignation after 55 moves. After four classical games, Salem boasts an impressive record of two wins and two draws. His relatively lower position in the overall standings is primarily due to his performance in the rapid games segment.
Aravindh Chithambaram’s draw against Radoslaw Wojtaszek was sufficient for him to regain the lead. Although the Polish player held a slight advantage with White, the game ultimately concluded in a draw by repetition.
On the third board, Frederik Svane faced Volodar Murzin. Svane also gained an advantage with White but was unable to convert it into a win. For Murzin, who celebrated his 19th birthday on Friday, the draw was likely a satisfactory result.
