Rising light-heavyweight prospect Khalil Coe faces a pivotal period in his professional career over his upcoming two bouts.
Following his defeat to Manuel Gallegos last November, which Coe attributed to health concerns, he made a triumphant return to Mexico in May, securing a decisive TKO victory against Gallegos in the sixth round. This dominant performance by “Big Steppa” announced his serious intentions as he prepares for a significant challenge against seasoned veteran Jesse Hart.
The Coe vs. Hart bout is scheduled as the main co-feature to the Jaron Ennis vs. Uisma Lima fight, taking place on October 11 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
Fresh off his success in Mexico, New Jersey`s Coe (10-1-1, 8 KOs) steps back into a challenging environment as he takes on Philadelphia`s own Hart (31-3, 25 KOs). Eddie Hearn, Coe`s promoter, shared his high aspirations for the 28-year-old in an interview with Boxing News:
“Our plan is to face Jesse Hart, then Oleksandr Gvozdyk, and subsequently challenge for a world title. We are confident that following his strong performance in Mexico, he has the potential to become a dominant force in the division.”
While Coe currently isn`t listed in the top 15 rankings by any of the four major boxing organizations, a victory over Hart would be a substantial advancement. Considering Oleksandr Gvozdyk holds the fourth spot in the WBC rankings, a win against Hart could pave Coe`s way into contention for a world title shot.
Commenting on the upcoming clash with Hart, Coe declared:
“This is a pivotal fight for both of us. I genuinely believe I am the top rising prospect globally, and defeating Jesse will solidify that claim. This win will elevate me to the next tier and put me on the cusp of major fights within the 175-pound division.”
Coe further emphasized:
“It`s uncommon to see fighters at my stage taking on challenges of this magnitude, which simply speaks to my self-belief. On October 11, my goal is to make a definitive statement. I commend Jesse for accepting this fight; I respect him, but when fight night arrives, this will be my opportunity. `Big Steppa` is ready; I intend to assert my dominance.”
