As their domestic boxing rivalry intensifies, Lewis Edmondson has wasted no time in sharing revealing sparring anecdotes about Ezra Taylor, ahead of their highly anticipated light-heavyweight clash.
Edmondson, the British and Commonwealth champion, will defend his titles on October 25th at London`s O2 Arena, appearing on the undercard of the Joseph Parker vs. Fabio Wardley event.
With a professional record of 11-1 (3 KOs), Edmondson is coming off a contentious majority decision loss to Daniel Lapin, but is now focused on his first defense of the prestigious Lonsdale Belt. His career-defining victory came last year when the 29-year-old dethroned Dan Azeez, paving the way for this showdown against the undefeated Taylor (12-0, 8 KOs).
Despite their year-long verbal sparring and mutual efforts to fuel the rivalry, mandatory challenger Taylor surprisingly accused Edmondson of delaying their British title bout. Edmondson added, “I`m unsure if he genuinely believes his own hype or if it`s just for show, but we`ll get our answers on October 25th. I`ll demonstrate why I earned multiple national titles and represented England as an amateur, and why I became British champion in just my tenth professional fight by beating Dan Azeez.”
When questioned about Taylor`s motivation for taking the fight, Edmondson speculated, “What other options does he have? He`s 31 years old. [Queensberry promoter] Frank Warren likely told him, `Mate, take this fight or get lost.`”
Taylor recently secured a unanimous decision victory over Troy Jones, maintaining his unbeaten record despite facing some challenges during the fight.
However, Edmondson dismisses Taylor`s professional record as superficial, suggesting it hides underlying weaknesses allegedly exposed in training. He claimed, “I know Ty Mitchell [a British super-middleweight] broke his eye socket during sparring. I also know that Ben Whittaker brought him to tears, with his bottom lip quivering in front of his friends.”
Edmondson concluded by asserting his own resilience: “Ben is an Olympian and a skilled fighter, but no man could ever make me cry in the ring.”
