Reflecting on his past success, Berry stated, “I weighed 120lbs when I clinched the English title (a third-round stoppage against Lewis Frimpong at York Hall in March), and I had no trouble making that weight.” He trains under the guidance of Birmingham`s renowned boxing figure, Jon Pegg, at the Eastside gym.
He added, “While I could potentially drop to super-flyweight, it would severely deplete my energy.”
With an impressive professional record of 14-1, including six early finishes, Berry is confident that his formidable power will transition seamlessly to the 118lbs division. This is the weight class where Andrew Cain currently holds the British and Commonwealth belts.
Commenting on Cain, the formidable Scouser with 12 early wins in his 14-1 record, Berry remarked, “He appears to be a challenging opponent, but he might be considering a move up, potentially leaving those titles vacant.”
He succinctly added, “I`m simply focused on securing any available titles.”
Berry conveyed a profound commitment to his sport, asserting that he would walk away from boxing if he didn`t believe he could achieve a world title.
He elaborated, “If I didn`t envision myself as a world champion, what purpose would there be in continuing? This sport demands immense dedication and is incredibly tough. Without that ultimate goal, I`d be better off pursuing other paths. But this is my passion, the life I`ve chosen.”
